Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy is another ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist
puts cups on the skin to create counter - pressure that works deep muscles and fascia.
The difference between deep tissue being we compress and in cupping we lift the tissue
facilitating movement of the muscles, fascia and fluid in different ways.
Cupping has been used in healing across many countries for many centuries,
being an integral part of Chinese Medicine dating back 5,000 years.
One of the oldest texts to mention cupping is Eber's papyrus 1550bc from ancient Egypt.
Essentially Cupping is the "Art of Creating Space" between the surface of the body
and the deep tissue layers to allow blood, fluids and Qi (Life Force Energy) to flow freely.
There are different types of cupping and different instruments,
from hot cupping with bamboo or glass cups,
where a flame is inserted into the cup to create a vacuum before quickly placing on the skin.
To cold cupping using non- igneous cups with a pump to create the vacuum.
Other's being Running cupping, Flash cupping, Wet/ bleeding cupping...
One of the most misunderstood parts of cupping is the possible mark left behind at times.
The mis coloured circle/ mark after a cupping session is not a bruise
(which results from a trauma giving subdermal bleeding and is often sore)
but closer to what we know as hickeys, the colouring varies in the amount
and type of congestion being released/ removed from the tissues.
It can be part of the diagnostic tool, revealing what is happening internally in that area.
Cupping marks usually fade within 2 - 7 days depending on the amount released.
Cupping is used to activate the immune system and lymphatic system.

Benefits of Cupping
> Negative pressure is created by the cups,
allowing toxins to be drawn to the surface, aiding the lymphatic system,
stimulating the immune system - therefore boosting the cellular immune system.
Aiding the body to detox.
> Releasing tension from the fascia, aiding faster healing of the soft tissues.
Improving function and mobility of the myo-skeletal system, relieving tired and sore muscles.
> Dispersing congestion and lactic acid.
Drawing deeply held congestion from soft tissue, meridians, organs
and facilitating its dispersal.
> Fullness, congestion and stagnation of the tissues
is resolved as fresh blood and fluids are brought to the site of the cups.
> Underlying congestion of the organs is cleared.
Giving relief for lung conditions or chronic or repeated colds, post pneumonia.
Relief for digestive conditions.
> Warming and promoting free flow of Qi and blood in the body.
Cupping can stimulate the life force energy through meridians in the body
> Relieving oedema & inflammation
> Generally aiding circulation
> Relieving menstrual cramps, can promote a regular cycle
aids ovulation, reduces blockages in the fallopian tubes
and promote hormonal balance.
> Skin Conditions, changing the skins bio mechanics
